Sigmon Theatrical Inspires Educators at Blumenthal Arts
Caleb and Katy Sigmon, the dynamic husband-and-wife team behind Sigmon Theatrical, recently took center stage at the Blumenthal Arts Educator Network event in conjunction with the North American touring production of The Lion King. Their captivating keynote speech, titled “The Power of Puppetry,” unpacked puppetry styles of the iconic broadway show and left educators inspired and eager to explore this magical art form in their classrooms and onstage productions.
Sigmon Theatrical has evolved into a regionally recognized production company, known for its powerhouse productions, immersive experiences, festival entertainment, themed attractions, and collaborations with nationally recognized theatre companies. Beyond the stage, they are very passionate about empowering students and educators through their innovative approach to theatre education.
“Blumenthal Arts was thrilled to welcome Katy and Caleb from Sigmon Theatrical as our keynote speakers for this AEN event before Disney’s The Lion King. With a focus on puppetry and how this show elevated this production element to a new level transfixed our educators – not just because puppetry is a well-known art form, but more so because Katy and Caleb discussed how accessible this could be to an arts department budget. They brought sample puppets from their most recent touring show, Dragon Quest, and shared openly that it took only $17 to create one of these giant puppets. I watched educators’ mouths drop as they realized that this was something they should consider in their upcoming shows, and I saw gears turning of how to incorporate students into the mix in this process. These new ideas and perspectives are exactly what the AEN is about – giving teachers an evening where they feel celebrated, elevated, and inspired to learn something new and keep up their amazing work in arts education."

The Sigmon’s keynote speech reminded educators that puppetry isn’t just about strings, rods, and shadows—it’s about imagination, connection, and the magic of storytelling.
